Feces swells in water due to the absorption of water by the undigested food particles and the presence of mucus and bacteria in the fecal matter. When feces is exposed to water, the undigested food particles and fiber in the stool absorb water, causing the feces to swell and increase in size. Additionally, the mucus and bacteria in the fecal matter can also absorb water, contributing to the swelling of the stool. This swelling can make it easier for the feces to be passed out of the body during a bowel movement. **
